September’s Village Harvest serving 132 people were the best results since May when 146 came shopping and represents the second largest attendance in 2019. The weather helped – a beautiful fall day with brilliant sunshine.
We had 1,344 pounds of food available which was close to the average so far this year (about 1,376 pounds). Of the 1,344 pounds, 38% was produce, 37% grocery, 16% meat and 8% drinks.
YTD in 2019, we have served 1,026 people, the second largest since 2015. (2018 was missing a month due to weather). The largest was in 2017 at 1,324 when we were still calling people ahead. Currently we are relying people to remember the 3rd Wed in each month, supplemented with some social media support.
The pounds of food provided has been the largest year to date over 4 years in September. 12,361 pounds of food have been provided compared to 11,997 in 2018, though one Village Harvest date was missing. Pounds per person year to date is 12.05 pounds, the second highest over the 4 year period though the largest weight was 2018 which was just above it at 12.34 pounds.
The bottom line for a shopper is measured in value. What value is provided by the Harvest? The last two years 2018-2019 have been close to each other, $76 and $77 per visit respectively well above the previous two years at $53 and $55 (2017 and 2016). This is measured at a standard value at $6 a pound.
