We celebrated our 3 year anniversary of our food ministry, the Village Harvest in a big way by serving 191 people on Nov. 15. What a birthday! This is a new monthly record and up from 170 the month before. This provides even more focus on building financial support, particularly on #Giving Tuesday. We gave out all 1,600+ pounds of food including chicken, peanut butter, tuna. potatoes squash, cabbage and cereal. canned vegetables and grapes.

Through Nov, 2017 after 3 years we have served 4,187 people, 33,934 pounds of food. That’s 8 pounds a person or market value of $48 each month a client comes. FREE!

The ministry benefits both our clients and volunteers, pictured above

We asked why people work the Village Harvest. Here are some of the responses:

1  “I help with the Village Harvest because it is a way that I help to provide food to people that I would never have been able to do on my own. I enjoy being a part of a team in our mission "To Do God’s Will". “I think that our community is learning that we at St. Peter’s CARE and desire to share God’s love with our neighbors. “

2 “I help because we are called in the Gospel to feed the hungry.”

3 “I help with Village Harvest because we get to know the people we help. It’s so much better than the things we do to help people around the world. These folks become friends not just a number. We don’t get to meet all 191 people but the ones that are regulars ( that we meet every month ) we visit with (and hug). It just makes me happy that we can help in some small way to make things a little easier or better for them.”

4. “Jesus asks us to help people not as fortunate as we are. He tells us to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. Everybody will need some sort of help in their lives at some point. Helping people to have access to fresh vegetables, fruit, meats and other necessities is important to me and our church. It is what Jesus asks us to do. I have faith I will be with him one day and hopefully as we help these people at our food distribution we can help them to come to know Christ.”

Well said. Join this ministry by supporting us financially on Nov. 28, #GivingTuesday. The results speak for themselves. You are helping both your neighbors in need and the volunteers who work for the program.
