The venue of the program presented by Historic Port Royal was switched to St. Peter’s because of the impending rain. Most of the rain held off until the early afternoon
St. Peter’s had to modify its schedule. We had the slideshows but few people watched with the main program directly outside. Marilyn decided not to bring her harp.
Mike presented the Pledge of Allegiance and both Mike and Nancy led the National anthem. Nancy spoke on the importance of participating in government from contacting your representatives to voting. Cookie thanked all and presented Billy Beale from Union Bank who made the announcement that the bank would deed the Port Royal Museum building to them. Mike gave an impassioned reading of the Declaration and was followed by Patrick Henry reliving his St. Johns speech in March, 1775 and got a roaring reception. He had the entire speech memorized and provided an animated reading.
St. Peter’s ECM with Johnny, Helmut and Ken worked the hotdog stand with major help from Samantha.
At 12:30pm , St. Peter’s had the hymn with most of the national anthems presented on Sunday. Catherine introduced the church and offered people the chance to write a prayer for the nation and the pad in the front. She provided a few tours of the altarpiece restoration preceding the hymn sing.
Thom Guthrie was on hand to provide the accompaniment and then at the end "Variations on America." Finally, a lecture was presented on the altarpiece restoration. We did get $10 for the Altarpiece restoration and a prayer on the pad.
