Commissioning of the Staten Island Mission Team

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we are sending  Eunice, Roger, Cookie, Johnny, Elizabeth, Jim,  Wendy, Catherine, Chris, Becky, Kimberly, Tucker and Zeke Fisher to carry out God’s work in New York, on Staten Island.  These servants of Christ are being sent out to share the Good News of Jesus in word and deed, by clothing children who need clothes for school.

I ask you now, this congregation who has given so much to help prepare and now sends this team out,

“Will you support the people on this team with your fervent prayers while they are gone?”

We will, with the help of God.

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

 Matt 5:  14-16

Dear servants, I ask you now, in the presence of God and these witnesses, “Are you willing and ready to use your gifts to glorify God as you go out to serve in Jesus’ name, to let your lights shine?”

Yes, with the help of God.

I commission you, then, to serve as St Peter’s missionaries in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Remember the words of Philippians,  “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength…and God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

Let us pray together.

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace:  So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.  Amen.
