ECM, Annual Report, 2015
Bill Wick
The Men of the Church met during every month on the second Saturday, but not always in the
same location. We were crowded out of Horne's by another group, changed our meeting day
from Saturday to Friday, found it was more pleasant and we could conduct a nice meeting
without having to scream to one another. Problem with this choice was that too many men
were unable to attend on Friday due to other commitments. The last move was to the Parish
House (Fall Hall). This didn't seem to work out as the men had too many conflicts interfering
with the time of the meeting. We will now meet back at Horne's on the second Saturday of
February and hope it works as well as it used to be before we were crowded out.
We still had good attendance at the Meetings, particularly in the earlier months. We averaged 9
men for all the meetings and that allowed us to get our work done. Speaking of work, activities
that helped the Church, gave all of us a sense that we were just doing the Lord's work!
During the course of 2015, we did a spring and fall clean-up around the church, helping it to
look more attractive for any guests attending services, including our Bishops. We also
sponsored a Ladies’ Night Out, to honor the women as well as raise money for the Vestry to use
as they deem appropriate. Over the last eleven years, this activity has raised almost eleven
thousand dollars. Due to necessary kitchen remodeling plans, we won't be holding that event
this year.
The Men's Group also operates Transportation in Need to get people to doctors and hospitals
when necessary. During the year 2015, the men drove at least six patients to either
Fredericksburg or Richmond to visit doctors or to get to hospitals for surgeries.
This year, as in past years, the Men's Group accepted the responsibility of helping the entire
Church in making both Thanksgiving and Christmas very special for less fortunate families living
in our area. The Men's Group, on behalf of St. Peter's Church, contacted the Social Services
Department in Bowling Green and obtained confidential information regarding five families in
our area, three families to enjoy a Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings. There were
nine persons enjoying Thanksgiving this year. For Christmas, not only did the Men's Group
obtain the number of members in each family, but also the ages and wish list of each person so
presents could be selected to please each individual. In addition to monetary contributions by
each of the Men, the congregation also made wonderful contributions to this worthy cause.
Each of the members of the Men's Group enjoyed being a part of the Group, and felt the
activities were meaningful and worth the effort. I can truthfully share this with the Church folks,
