Ken’s and Charles’ hardwork canvassing the neighbordhoods paid off with 11 signups and 20+ attending for the beginning of the tutoring ministry. They felt the kickoff went extremely well.  They will continue doing the same with Spanish translations of their documents.

Most of the children were between 2nd and 9th grades with a cluster in the middle – 5th and 6th grades. There are three additional adults that would like to pass their GED.  Tutors from St. Peter’s include Becky, Justin, Karen and Catherine.

Catherine, Charles and Andrea spoke prior to the pizza arriving. Ken then explained the need to complete a yellow sheet that will help determine what courses are taught. He gave them some letters to color to be brought back on Monday March 24 5:30pm for prizes. This session functioned on getting to know the students needs and the subjects they liked. Ken tried to get them to talk about what subjects they would like help. Pizza was followed by cake.

One beneficial side effect was the networking among adults. Catherine, for instance, found Lola who has a job, child care for her daughter with Loretta. That meant Lola could work and Loretta could pick up some extra dollars.
