2018 was a special year for St. Peter’s ECW because Cookie Davis, our former president, received a national award for her service to the ECW. Her award was announced at the General Convention in Texas in July and celebrated at a Region 1 meeting in October.
Closer to home this year, the St. Peter’s ECW hosted a group from the St. George’s ECW for lunch on May 24 and in turn had lunch at St. George’s on September 11. Our visit to St. George’s included a wonderful tour of the church’s stained glass windows led by Ben Hicks. And on November 27, the ECW enjoyed an elegant tea at Cookie Davis’ house. At the tea,the group voted to make donations to a number of organizations including Healthy Harvest Food Bank, St. Andrew’s School, Caroline Young Life, Caroline’s Promise, St. Peter’s Village Harvest, Five Talents, St. Peter’s Discretionary Fund, Episcopal Relief and Development, and Heifer International. The group also give $1000 to support the work of Luis Garcia in the Dominican Republic.
In the coming year, the ECW plans to serve dinner on Feb. 5 to the University of Mary Washington ELCM students. Other plans include a visit to the Bowling Green Nursing Home and possibly a retreat at Richmond Hill in the spring and a visit to Graves Mountain in the fall. The Royal Caterers plan to continue preparing the monthly Village Dinners, and ECW members will continue to be responsible for caring for the altar each Sunday.
