Fourth Sunday of Easter, Year B
Morning Prayer, Rite II
The Ringing of the Bell
Prelude Prelude in F Major J. S. Bach
Opening Hymn Savior, like a shepherd lead us H 708
Alleluia! Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor (Silence is kept)
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.
The Invitatory and Psalter
Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen
Alleluia!
Alleluia. The Lord is risen indeed: Come let us adore him. Alleluia.
Christ our Passover (Pascha nostrum) Said together in unison
Alleluia.
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us;*
therefore let us keep the feast,
Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil,*
But with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia.
Christ being raised from the dead will never die again;*
Death no longer has dominion over him.
The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all;*
But the life he lives, he lives to God.
So also consider yourselves dead to sin,*
And alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia.
Christ has been raised from the dead,*
The first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since by a man came death,*
By a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die,*
So also in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia.
Psalm 23 The king of love my shepherd is H 646
A Reading from Acts 4:5-12 (Lectionary Insert)
Canticle M A Song of Faith, 1 Peter 1:3-4, 18-21 (Said together in unison)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,*
by divine mercy we have a new birth into a living hope;
Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,*
we have an inheritance that is imperishable in heaven.
The ransom that was paid to free us*
was not paid in silver or gold,
But in the precious blood of Christ,*
the Lamb without spot or stain.
God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him glory*
so that we might have faith and hope in God.
A Reading from from John 3:16-24 (Lectionary Insert)
Canticle N A Song of God’s Love, 1 John 4:7-11 (Said together in unison)
Beloved, let us love one another,*
for love is of God.
Whoever does not love does not know God,*
for God is Love.
In this the love of God was revealed among us,*
that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through Jesus Christ.
In this is love, not that we loved God but that God loved us*
and sent his Son that sins might be forgiven.
Beloved, since God loved us so much,*
we ought also to love one another.
For if we love one another, God abides in us,*
And God’s love will be perfected in us.
A Reading from from John 10:11-18 (Lectionary Insert)
The Sermon The Rev. Catherine D. Hicks
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgivenss of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Suffrages
Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.
Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.
Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.
Collect for the 4th Sunday of Easter
O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people; Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
A Collect for the Renewal of Life (read in unison)
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give your thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Prayer for Mission
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A Prayer of thanksgiving for the beauty of the Earth
We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty of earth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains, plains and rivers; for the songs of birds and loveliness of flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and we pray that we may safeguard them for our posterity. Grant that we may continue to grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation, to the honor and glory of your Name, now and for ever. Amen.
For those on our prayer list
Merciful Lord, who has taught us in your holy Word that you do not willingly afflict or grieve us: Look with compassion upon the sorrows of those we now name before you and for whom we offer our prayers. (Read prayer list here) Remember them, O Lord, in your mercy, nourish their souls with patience, comfort them with a sense of your goodness, lift up your countenance upon them, and give them your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For those in the Armed Forces of our Country
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad, especially those on our prayer list. (Read prayer list here). Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
A General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And we pray,give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
Closing Hymn O day of peace that dimly shines H 597
Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.

“Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.6" – John 10:11,16
