Lighting of the Advent Wreath

Christmas Eve

Leader:  The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them a light has shined.

All:  Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord, all the whole earth.

Leader:  For a child has been born to us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

All:  Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, let the whole earth tremble before God.

Leader:  Let us pray.

Holy God, God of power and might, you are the light that shines in the darkness.  We praise and thank you for coming to dwell among us, the Word made flesh.  Open our eyes to see your glory, full of grace and truth, and to carry your light into this world.  In the name of your Son, our Savior, the Prince of Peace, and the light of the world, we pray.  Amen.

The candles on the Advent wreath are lit.
