Senior Warden, Annual Report, 2016
Roger Key
In addition to the Village Harvest and Village Dinners and many other things that have taken
place in the past year that are covered elsewhere in the following reports, I’ve listed several
other things in my report to you.
We had not one, but two concerts this past year. The Portland Guitar Duo came to St Peters’ in
the spring, and in the fall, we once again welcomed Lyra, the group of singers from Russia who
tour the United States each year. The group had an extra member this year, and they
performed an entirely new repertoire. Other musical notes—Gospel on the River took place, as
usual, in September. And on July 4
th
, St Peter’s opened its doors, as it always does, for a hymn
sing during the HPR and Town of Port Royal July 4
th
celebration.
Brad Volland gave a wonderful gift to St Peter’s, an excellent keyboard that will enhance any
music that requires its use. The keyboard that has been in the church is now in the parish
house, meaning that we can now have accompanied music there as well. We are so grateful to
Brad for this wonderful gift to the church.
Historic Port Royal bought a sound system this past year and is sharing it with St Peter’s. The
church has purchased a wireless microphone for the Rector to use during worship services, so
that all people can hear more clearly. We are so grateful for this gift of sound to our worship.
Thanks to Andrea Pogue, Shred-It came to Port Royal again in 2016, giving community members
a chance to clear out papers from their houses while supporting the outreach programs of St
Peter’s.
In May, St Peter’s and Christ Church once again participated together in a parish retreat at
Shrine Mont, a time enjoyed by all who attended. This retreat offers an excellent opportunity
for the people of St Peter’s to join with our brothers and sisters in Christ from other
congregations to strengthen our bonds of fellowship. Catherine was responsible for the
programming of the retreat in 2016.
And also in May, on the day of Pentecost, St Peter’s celebrated its 180
th
anniversary during
worship, followed by a picnic afterward. For 180 years, this church has blessed not only its
members, but its community, and I hope that St Peter’s can continue to be a light and a blessing
to this world in the years ahead as we continue to live into our mission statement—“To do
God’s will.”
